In the Name of Allāh.
As recorded by Imam Ahmad (RahimahuLlāh) in his Musnad,A’ishah (RadiyaLlāhu ‘Anha) narrated: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Indeed, graves embrace every dead person and if anyone will survive of it, it will be Sa’d Ibn Mu’adh.”
By Allāh’s Grace, this morning, we shall look at the profile of one of the greatest people whom Allāh used to aid His Religion (Islam). This Sahabah had many virtues, one of which is that the Throne of Allāh shook (due to its love for him) when he died. [Check Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī and Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim]
His name is Abu ‘Amr Sa’d Ibn Mu’adh Ibn An-Nu’man Al-Ansari (RadiyaLlāhu ‘Anhu). He accepted Islam in Madinah through Mus’ab Ibn ‘Umayr (the first envoy in Islam [RadiyaLlāhu ‘Anhu]). Equally, he addressed his people to follow suit and they all thus embraced Islam. Sa’d was a gutsy knight who partook in the battle of Badr, Uhud and Khandaq. He was powerful against the disbelievers in Makkah and intimidated its masters in their homes. He is one of the three persons among the tribe of Banu ‘Abdul-Ashhal (of Madinah) whom no one could excel in virtue, as said by our mother, A’ishah (RadiyaLlāhu ‘Anha).
More so, he was one of the eminent figures and heroes of Islam conferred with intellectual qualities and thus adept at offering a personal opinion to solve problems through their Ijtihad (Allāh-given juristic reasoning or insight). Sa’d died at the age of 37 as one of the noblest martyrs. He indeed lived a productive life. It was said the Prophet (ﷺ) told people that he is one of the people of Paradise.
I beseech Allāh to be Especially Merciful to Sa’d Ibn Mu’adh. (Aameen)
