THE HEROIC SAGA OF AL-BARĀ’ IBN MĀLIK

In the Name of Allāh.

O Muslims, gather around and let’s read the heroic saga of Al-Barā’ Ibn Mālik (Raḍiyallāhu ‘Anhu), the valiant warrior of Islām. With unflinching bravery and unwavering faith, he fought in the heat of battles, his heart yearning for martyrdom.

There was a vicious war against the deceit of Musaylimah who claimed to be a Prophet during the reign of Abu Bakr (Raḍiyallāhu ‘Anhu). At the Garden of Death, where Musaylimah and his men took refuge, the gates were closed, and the apostates entrenched within. But Al-Barā’, his sword in hand, his courage unfazed, was catapulted over the walls. Many fell upon his blade, yet he fought on, sustaining countless wounds in his quest for Paradise. That was his bravery!

When the gates were finally opened, the Muslims poured forth, and Musaylimah, the false Prophet, met his end at their hands. The victory was secured, but the desire for the martyrdom of Al-Barā’ still burned within him.

He fought on, in battle after battle, his soul yearning for the eternal Embrace of Allāh. At the Battle of Tustar, he met his fate, a martyr at last. Verily, his heroism is a shining example to us all, his devotion to Allāh a guiding light in the darkness of the battlefield. So we remember him, Al-Barā’ Ibn Mālik, the lion of Islām, the hero of faith, the fearless warrior, the steadfast servant of Allāh.

I beseech Allāh to accept the sacrifice and bravery of all the companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) and grant us the strength and the wisdom to follow in their footsteps. Aameen
