In the Name of Allāh.
Islām emphasizes the significance of interacting and nurturing positive relationships among our fellow Muslims. However, in these interactions, we must exercise caution and discernment. Choosing our friends and associates carefully is vital, as they can profoundly influence our beliefs and actions. Abū Hurayrah reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) stated, “A man is upon the religion of his best friend, so let one of you look at whom he befriends.” [Sunan At-Tirmidhī 2378]
We should strive to surround ourselves with righteous and knowledgeable individuals; being in the company of quality people who possess excellent character is essential as it will guide us towards the Path of Allāh. Allāh reminds us: “O you who believe! Be afraid of Allāh, and be with those who are true (in words and deeds).” [Sūrah At-Tawbah (9): 119]
In adherence to this directive, it is imperative to avoid close relationships with those who promote falsehood, exhibit questionable character, and seek to undermine the Religion of Allāh, for such individuals may mislead us or bring harm to our faith.
Moreover, the counsel of Muṣ’ab Ibn Sa’d (Raḥimahullāh) serves as a poignant reminder regarding the perils of associating with the misguided or deceptive. He advised, “Do not sit with a Maftūn (one who is trialed with deviance) for verily, he will not miss you with one of two things: Either he trials you (with his misguidance) and you follow him, or he will harm you before you depart from him.” [Al-Ibānah: 2/458]
Thus, O Muslims, let us embrace this counsel and steer clear from those who would seek to corrupt our faith and lead us astray. Instead, let us embrace the company of the truthful and the righteous.
I beseech Allāh to guide us in rightly selecting our companions and grant us the blessing of good company, so that we may all unite in His worship. Aameen!
