Nourishing your soul.

AT THE END OF THE MONTH (IV)

In the Name of Allāh.

Who are the most undesirable women? The Prophet described: “The worst women of yours are those who display their beauty to strangers (Mutabarrijāt) and are arrogant, and they are hypocrites, NONE of them will enter Jannah EXCEPT the likes of red-legged crow (a rare bird), i.e., only a few.” [as-Sunan al-Kubrá 12480]

Unfortunately, we find ourselves in a time when Tabarruj (the excessive display of beauty by women) is at its apogee. While women need to attend ‘Eid prayer, it is not a gathering for fashion or a beauty contest. Women must be conscious of Allāh regarding their attire and the display of their beauty, ensuring that they do not dress in a way that enchants their brothers in faith and draws their hearts to sins. Is it sensible for someone who witnessed Ramaḍān and engaged in various acts of worship to end it with sinful behavior? What, then, is the true essence of the month for such individuals? We seek Allāh’s Protection from destruction.

Furthermore, when the crescent of Shawwāl is sighted following the Maghrib prayer on the 29th or 30th day of Ramaḍān, we are encouraged to commence the Takbīrat, such as saying: “Allāhu Akbar Allāhu Akbar lā ilāha illallāh wallāhu Akbar walillāhil ḥamd,” as there are different ways of saying it. Allāh states: “(He wants that you) must complete the same number (of days), and that you must magnify Allāh [i.e., to say Takbīr (Allāhu-Akbar; Allāh is the Most Great) on seeing the crescent of the months of Ramaḍān and Shawwāl] for having guided you so that you may be grateful to Him.” [Sūrah Al-Baqarah (2): 185]

The Takbīrat of ‘Eid al-Fiṭr cease once the ‘Eid prayer is performed. However, for ‘Eid al-Aḍḥa, the Takbīrat continue until after the ‘Asr prayer on the third day following ‘Eid, which is the 13th of Dhūl-Ḥijjah.

Additionally, there is no specific number of Takbīrat required, and it should not be said in unison (congregationally) as there is no basis for that. It is Sunnah for both men and women, to recite it in the mosque, at home, in the marketplace, and while heading to the ‘Eid prayer location. Men are encouraged to say it aloud, while women should recite it softly, as they have been instructed to lower their voices.

I beseech Allāh to protect us from innovation, accept our acts of worship, keep our souls on the path of goodness, and make the ‘Eid celebration a joyous one. Aameen.
