A HOME FILLED WITH HONOR

In the Name of Allāh.

Raising children in a home that breathes love, respect, and care is essential in molding their behavior and helping them develop healthy relationships in their future homes. By upholding these positive values, we instill in them a sense of right and wrong and the importance of treating others with kindness and compassion.

Sadly, many homes today are filled with conflict, with mothers-in-law becoming the pain of daughters-in-law’s existence, and husbands turning into tyrants. This is a clear violation of Allāh’s Injunction to live with honor and dignity in our relationships.

Allāh cautions the men regarding the women: “…And live with them honorably. If you dislike them, it may be that you dislike a thing and Allāh brings through it a great deal of good.” [Sūrah An-Nisa’ (4): 19] The Prophet (ﷺ) also said: “Fear Allāh regarding women. Verily, you have taken them as a trust from Allāh.” [Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1218]

Verily, husbands must take on the mantle of responsibility, acting as peacemakers and bridge-builders in the face of conflict, creating a harmonious environment for their families. This is a duty not only to Allāh but also to their children, who deserve to grow up in a home filled with love and respect. It’s crucial to always remember that our children are watching. They are absorbing the patterns of behavior and dynamics of relationships that we demonstrate in our homes.

O parents, please, let’s strive to create homes that are havens of love and tranquility, where our children can flourish and learn the importance of virtuous conduct. Let’s be mindful of the powerful example we set, for the eyes of our children are always upon us, and the foundation we build in our homes will shape their character and future.

I beseech Allāh to bless us with the wisdom and patience to build harmonious homes, create beautiful environments for our families, protect our families from discord, and guide us toward kindness and compassion in our relationships. Aameen.
