VALUING DEEN OVER DUNYĀ

What an example of some Muslims who value worldly knowledge over knowledge of the Deen, who prioritize the Dunyā over the Ākhirah, and who place more importance on the fleeting pleasures of this life than on the eternal reward of the Hereafter.

Why is it that some Muslims possess extensive worldly knowledge yet remain unaware of their Deen? Some may struggle to read the Qur’ān fluently, yet we often hold them in high esteem within society. However, it was reported by ‘Uthmān Ibn Affān that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The best of you are those who learn the Qur’ān and teach it.” [Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 5027]

Strangely, we often find these Muslims, who overlook the importance of Deen, eager to express their opinions in every Islāmic discourse. Furthermore, some may identify as apologetic Muslims, quick to compromise their beliefs, and occasionally defend clear Kufr (disbelief).

Indeed, Allāh elevates His Auliya’ (Loyal Friends) due to their obedience, while the disbelievers are debased because of their disobedience and rejection of the truth that they deem unnecessary. Dear brothers and sisters, I encourage you to diligently safeguard Allāh’s Teachings, adhere to them, be recognized by them, and act accordingly. Remember, there is no obedience to anyone when it involves disobedience to Allāh.

Through the knowledge of the Deen, we find our path to Allāh, uncover the true essence of life, and appreciate the beauty and wisdom found in the Qur’ān and the Sunnah. Let us not forsake our faith for worldly gains, nor shy away from the truth to please others. Instead, let us aspire to live as the Ṣaḥābah (Companions of the Prophet ﷺ) did; valuing the knowledge of the Deen above all, devoting their lives to the teachings of the Qur’ān and the Sunnah, and embodying profound humility and unwavering dedication to Allāh and His Messenger (ﷺ).

I beseech Allāh to count us among those who earnestly and diligently learn the Deen, implement it in our lives, and share the knowledge with others. Aameen.
