In the Name of Allāh.
Indeed, supplicating to Allāh is an avowal of one’s helplessness. It’s a call addressed from an inferior to the Superior, Whose Power surpasses that of the caller, having the belief that nothing in the entire universe is beyond His Control.
However, there exist rebellious men of authority who are too supercilious to raise their hands in supplication to Allāh, except when afflicted with trials – maybe. They consider themselves self-sufficient; they do whatever they will with their money, power, and influence. Praise be to Allāh, the Lord of Perfect Supremacy as He says: “Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deeds, etc.). Because he considers himself self-sufficient.” [Sūrah Al-‘Alaq (96): 6-7]
O Muslims! Beware the dangers of self-sufficiency, of the delusion of independence. Verily, to rely solely on oneself, to trust in one’s power and abilities, is to turn away from our Creator and Sustainer (Allāh). The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Whoever does not ask from Allāh (i.e., supplicate to Him for His Bounty) then Allāh is angry with him.” [Adab Al-Mufrad 658]
Imām al-Munāwī (Raḥimahullāh) said in its Sharḥ: “This is because he who does not supplicate to Allāh is either the one who has lost hope with his Lord or the one who is too arrogant to ask, and both of these cases warrant Allāh’s Wrath.” [Fayd Al-Qadīr Sharḥ Al-Jami’ As-Saghīr]
It’s sheer ignorance to think that you don’t need to ask Allāh since He’s Aware of your condition. Yes, He’s the All-Knowing, but, He still wants you to ask. Allāh says: “Invoke Me (i.e., believe in My Oneness [Islāmic Monotheism] and ask Me for anything) I will respond to your (invocation). Verily! Those who scorn My worship (i.e. do not invoke Me, and do not believe in My Oneness [Islāmic Monotheism]), they will surely enter Hell in humiliation!” [Sūrah Ghāfir (40): 60]
Let’s always ask Him, He will indeed answer. I beseech Allāh to grant us more understanding and answer our supplications. Aameen
