THE BEST IN THE BEST

In the Name of Allāh.

It can certainly be said that envy arises when an individual is elevated above others in terms of status and moral virtue. Envy, by definition, is the desire to see someone stripped of their blessings. Yet, when such blessings are lost, the envier experiences no actual gain. A perfect example of this can be seen in the relationship between Prophet Yūsuf (‘Alayhi Salām) and his brothers, which was marked by profound envy.

If envy can also be directed toward months as it is with people, then Ramaḍān would undoubtedly be viewed with great envy, surrounded as it is by vibrant praises and discussions everywhere. Why would it be any different? Anas Ibn Mālik narrated that the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) said at the commencement of Ramaḍān: “Verily, this month has presented itself to you. There is a night therein that is better than a thousand months. Whoever is deprived of it has been deprived of all good. None is deprived of its good but he is truly deprived.” [Sunan Ibn Mājāh 1644]

Undoubtedly, Ramaḍān stands as the finest among its counterparts. It was during this month that the greatest Book (i.e., the Qur’ān) was revealed to the greatest Prophet (Muḥammad [ﷺ]), serving as a guide for the best nation.

Furthermore, today marks the first Friday of this year’s Ramaḍān – 1446 AH. Friday is indeed the most honored day of the week, and we express our gratitude to Allāh for this tremendous blessing! Is it not commendable for us to hurry to the Masjid today for Jumu’ah prayer? Let us also remember that there is a specific hour today during which any supplication made is certain to be answered. We give special thanks to Allāh for the gift of Islām.

I beseech Allāh to shield us from the harms of envy, guide us along the righteous path, and accept our acts of worship in this blessed month of Ramaḍān. Aameen.
