SENDING ṢALĀT ON HIM

In the Name of Allāh.

The day of Jumu’ah is indeed filled with many plusses. Aus Ibn Aus (Raḍiyallāhu ‘Anhu) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) stated: “The most virtuous of your days is Jumu’ah. On that day, Ādam was created, and on that day he died; (on that day) the horn would be blown, and the people would be dumbfounded! Increase your prayers upon me as your prayers upon me will be presented to me.” When the people asked, “O Messenger of Allāh, how will our prayers be presented to you when you have passed away?” he replied, “Allāh has prohibited the earth from eating the bodies of the Prophets.” [Sunan Abī Dāwūd 1047]

Indeed, affirming that Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ) is the Messenger of Allāh includes believing everything that has been authentically reported from him. Therefore, it would be wrong for anyone to deny that our prayers are presented to him (as mentioned in the above Ḥadīth) or to question how or why it is prohibited for the earth to consume the bodies of the Prophets. We are simply required to believe it.

Additionally, we must understand that Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ) continues to receive Allāh’s Blessings, whether we specifically seek blessings upon him or not. This is affirmed in the verse: “Allāh sends His Ṣalāt (Graces, Honours, Blessings, Mercy, etc.) on the Prophet (Muḥammad ﷺ) and also His angels too (ask Allāh to bless and forgive him). O you who believe! Send your Ṣalāt on (ask Allāh to bless) him (Muḥammad ﷺ)…” [Sūrah Al-Aḥzāb (33): 56]

However, sending Ṣalāt on him is particularly beneficial to us. How so? Abu Hurayrah reported: The Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) said, “Whoever sends blessings upon me once, Allāh will send blessings upon him ten times.” [Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 408] Need Allāh’s Blessings, Mercies, and Graces? Send Ṣalāt on His Beloved Messenger (ﷺ). I doubt anyone would want to miss this!

Furthermore, sending Ṣalāt on the Prophet (ﷺ) is not restricted to a specific time (other than increasing it on Fridays) or requires congregational recitation, as there is no evidence that our righteous predecessors engaged in such practice. It’s sufficient for us to do so individually whenever we want Allāh’s Blessings.

I beseech Allāh to continuously bestow His Peace and Blessings upon our noble Prophet, his esteemed family, his pure companions, and all those who follow his true path until the Day of Judgment. Aameen.
