SEEKING SAFETY FROM HELL

In the Name of Allāh.

Indeed, to avoid the dangers of life, we take immediate measures to ensure our safety. Whether it’s avoiding a business deal gone wrong, dodging a speeding car coming towards one, or confirming that an aircraft is fit to fly, we seek to avoid harm at all costs. Excellent! This is exactly what Islām commands – avoidance of harm (Mafsadah).

But, what of the greatest danger of all – the eventual Wrath and Torment of Allāh? It is of utmost importance for us, as believers, to take precautionary measures and seek safety with Allāh. Allāh says: “So flee to Allāh (from His Torment to His Mercy – Islāmic Monotheism)…” [Sūrah Adh-Dhāriyāt (51): 50]

The path to safety is: To embrace the faith (Islām) and worship Allāh Alone by following the teachings of His Messenger (ﷺ). Those who believe and who stay true to the path have their safety guaranteed. Allāh says: “It is those who believe (in the Oneness of Allāh and worship none but Him Alone) and confuse not their belief with Ẓulm (wrongs, i.e., by worshipping others besides Allāh), for them (only) there is the security (i.e. safety from Hell) and they are the guided.” [Sūrah Al-An’ām (6): 82]

However, for those who stray, who turn away from Allāh (i.e. by committing disbelief), the consequences are severe, the punishment assured. “Allāh has promised the hypocrites; men and women, and the disbelievers, the Fire of Hell, therein shall they abide. It will suffice them. Allāh has cursed them and for them is the lasting torment.” [Sūrah At-Tawbah (9): 68]

The message is clear: flee from disbelief, flee from sin, flee from the paths of doom, and embrace the Mercy of Allāh. Let us not delude ourselves into thinking that this life is all we have because the Hereafter is real and it’s looming. Thus, as we contemplate the dangers of this world, let us remember that the greatest danger of all lies in turning away from Allāh. Let us take refuge in His Mercy, seek His Guidance, and strive for righteousness.

I beseech Allāh for safety, for peace, for protection from His Wrath and Torment. Aameen.
