REQUESTED AND GOTTEN

In the Name of Allāh.

If the sagas of his bravery were to be told in detail, absolutely we can’t come to an end in a day. However, let’s converse about him briefly. He is an Ansari from Banu Khazraj, and a brother to an outstanding companion known as Anas Ibn Malik (RadiyaLlāhu Anhu). He is Al-Baraa Ibn Malik (RadiyaLlāhu ‘Anhu). During the reign of Abu Bakr (RadiyaLlāhu ‘Anhu), the Muslims waged war to bring back those who left Islam due to the death of the Prophet (ﷺ) plus the deceit of Musaylimah who claimed to be a Prophet. In the vicious war, Al-Baraa hoped for martyrdom and requested to be catapulted into a closed garden (named Garden of Death) where Musaylimah and his men took refuge. That was his bravery!

Upon entering, many fell on his sword and he equally sustained numerous wounds. However, he eventually opened the gate. The Muslims came upon Musaylimah and he was killed. The Muslims gained victory over the apostates through Al-Baraa, who wanted martyrdom. It pained his soul! After recovery, he kept engaging in battles to obtain his aim, which he later got at the battle of Tustar in Persia. The Muslims were caught by a new tactic of the non-Muslims during the battle. It was there that he died.

I beseech Allāh to be Especially Merciful to Al-Baraa Ibn Malik Al- Ansari. (Aameen)
