EXCEPT AFTER THE TWO…

In the Name of Allāh.

The blessed day of Jumu’ah is a moment of communal prayer and grace in the Masjid, the House of Allāh. But despite its importance, some Muslims still make mistakes when performing the rites and rituals on this holy day.

One of the mistakes that should be avoided is failing to offer the two voluntary Rak’at of prayer upon entering the Masjid, known as Tahiyyat al-Masjid, before settling down to listen to the Khutbah (sermon). This is a key component of the Jumu’ah prayer and was emphasized by the Prophet (ﷺ) in his guidance. Jābir Ibn ‘Abdullāh narrated: While delivering a sermon, Allāh’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “If anyone of you comes while the Imām is delivering the sermon or has come out for it, he should offer a two Rak’at prayer.” [Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1170] He added (in another narration): “…And should make them short.” [Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 875]

It is essential to remember that by avoiding common mistakes like this, Muslims can deepen their understanding of the Islāmic faith and its practices, and demonstrate their commitment to Allāh. Hence, we should sit not (in the Masjid) to listen to Friday’s sermon except after offering the two voluntary Rak’at. Please, let’s pay attention to that.

I beseech Allāh to guide us all on the path of righteousness and grace and bless us with the wisdom and humility to worship Him faithfully and correctly. Aameen
