In the Name of Allāh.
There is a dangerous misconception now spreading through our ranks, a belief that Christians are also on the right path and that they are also worshipping God just as we do. This is a false belief, a belief that is not grounded in the Qur’ān or the Sunnah.
Verily, the Christians have deviated from the path of Allāh (Islāmic Monotheism) which was the true teachings of ‘Eesa (whom they call Jesus [‘Alayhi Salām]).
According to the English Standard Version (ESV) of the Bible, one of the scribes came up and asked Jesus, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.” [Mark 12: 28-29] This is a statement of Tawḥīd (Monotheism). This is what the Muslims believe; that God (Allāh) is One, and He Alone deserves to be worshipped. Thus, no divinity is attributed to anyone, not Prophet ‘Eesa (‘Alayhi Salām), not Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)
Thus, to believe that the Christians are on the right path, that they are worshipping Allāh as we do, is misunderstanding the teachings of our Prophet (ﷺ), and ignoring the clear Commands of our Lord. The Prophet (ﷺ) was sent as a mercy to mankind, a mercy to all, to also call the Jews and the Christians to Islām, to guide them to the truth of Allāh’s Oneness, to lead them back to the path of righteousness and of faith.
Allāh instructed His Prophet: Say (O Muḥammad ﷺ): “O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians): Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allāh, and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allāh. Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims.” [Sūrah Aal-‘Imrān (3): 64]
If they are on the right path or if we are worshipping the same God, would the Prophet have been commanded to tell them to worship none but Allāh? More so, Abū Hurayrah reported: The Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) said, “By the One in Whose Hand is the soul of Muḥammad, none from this nation of Jews and Christians hears of me, and then dies without having faith in my message, but that he will be an inhabitant of Hellfire.” [Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 153]
Dear Muslims, I request you to reject this dangerous misconception, embrace the truth, and carry on the Prophetic mission of inviting the Christians, the Jews, and all of mankind to the truth of Islām, to the Way of Allāh, to the path of righteousness and faith. The truth is not obscured; it’s clear if only we open our eyes and hearts, and if only we turn to Allāh with sincerity and with faith.
I beseech Allāh to save us from falsehood and open our hearts to the truth of Islām. (Aameen)
