A TYRANT TO HIS WIFE

In the Name of Allāh.

By Allāh, some men are tyrannical masters in their homes. They ill-treat their wives like slaves and the house consequently becomes unbearably hot for living. What is wrong with such men? This is not part of the qualities of the pious men. Allāh forbids this as He says (in Sūrah An-Nisa’ [4] verse 19): “…And live with them honourably. If you dislike them, it may be that you dislike a thing and Allāh brings through it a great deal of good.”

Therefore, the men should follow Allāh’s Command by treating their wives nicely – gentleness and respect toward them, particularly in front of the children (or other people).

Respected brothers, you need to generally respect women, not just your wives alone (if married). It’s recorded in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī and Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Act kindly towards women for the woman has been created from a rib and the most crooked part of a rib is its upper part. So if you attempt to straighten it, you will break it but if you leave it, its crookedness remains there. So act kindly towards women.”

There’s no need to demand perfection from others while we are drowning in our flaws and shortcomings. So, a man should just take his wife to be the best! Even if he is stronger than her, he should remember that Allāh is stronger than him and He is above us.

I beseech Allāh to endow our men with good qualities, especially in treating the women well. (Aameen)
