In the Name of Allāh.
O men! Behind every beautiful woman stands a responsible man. The truth is, grass won’t remain green if it isn’t watered. So, resist the temptation to be distracted by the greener grass on the other side. Instead, focus on your lawn and explore ways to enhance it further.
Know that you are placed in charge, having authority over your women, and keeping them in check by your spending on them vis-a-vis dowry, maintenance, and other expenses ordained by Allāh. Allāh says: “…And because they spend (to support them) from their means.” [Sūrah An-Nisa’ (4): 34]
You’re the knight in shining armor, entrusted with the significant responsibility of care. This is a heavy burden, yet it is also a chance to mature, learn, and lead. Therefore, do not shy away from your duties—embrace them, rise to the occasion, and understand that by doing so, you contribute positively to your families and communities.
It’s important to realize that it’s not merely about appearance; much like watering your lawn, it’s about commitment. It’s not only about finances—it encompasses respect, understanding, and a healthy dose of fearing Allāh.
For those men feeling overwhelmed by responsibility, remember that you are not alone. We understand it’s challenging, particularly during these economic times. You are also not expected to bear burdens beyond your means. Whether you have plenty or are just getting by, your efforts are valuable, and your families depend on you.
Wealthy men should generously spend on their families, while those with limited resources must also spend significantly on their families. Above all, we should fear Allāh and discharge our responsibilities accordingly and effectively.
To all the responsible men out there, a heartfelt message: Thank you for being the pillars of your families, for consistently showing up, and for nurturing your lawns. And if you’re feeling a bit exhausted, keep pushing forward with your responsibilities, as you alone are capable of shouldering them. If women were to take on your roles, they would likely struggle to manage. It’s not uncommon for an acclaimed independent woman, upon attempting to take on these tasks, to find herself overwhelmed and frustrated.
I beseech Allāh to uplift all responsible men, grant them guidance and wisdom, strengthen them in challenging times, comfort them in times of sorrow, and continually empower them to lead their families. Aameen.
