THE ISLĀMIC APPROACH TO TRAVEL PREPARATION
In the Name of Allāh.
Continuing our discussion on TRAVELING IN ISLĀM, it is essential to recognize that a Muslim should not be secretive about certain matters, including bank account details, ATM pins, personal investments, and debts, both what one owes and what is owed to them.
Thus, an important part of PREPARATION for any journey involves managing these financial aspects, particularly through the documentation of such matters. This is crucial because one might unexpectedly find themselves in the land of no return, brought there by the Terminator of Desires (i.e., Death) at a time known only to Allāh. As Allāh states: “Say: Even if you had remained in your homes, those for whom death was decreed would certainly have gone forth to the place of their death.” [Sūrah Aal-‘Imrān (3): 154]
Next, we turn to the significance of Ad-Du’ā‘ (supplication). The Prophet (ﷺ) remarked: “Du’ā‘ (supplication) is (in essence) worship.” [Sunan At-Tirmidhī 3371] Essentially, when a person engages in supplication to Allāh during their travels, they are affirming Allah’s Right, recognizing that no one but Him can ensure safety or otherwise.
Is there a specific supplication to recite while traveling? Does one continue to recite the common Āyah Al-Kursiy? What are the proper etiquette and manners of supplication? By Allāh’s Grace, these questions will be addressed tomorrow.
Dear brethren, let us respond to the call of preparedness, acknowledging Allāh’s Decree, His Might, Power, and Mercy.
I beseech Allāh to grant us the wisdom to comprehend His Decree, the grace to worship Him sincerely, and the courage to seek His Guidance. Aameen
